Tutoring in practice

Tutoring in practice

One selects a tutor during the first three weeks of first semester of studies. Before making the decision, the student has an opportunity to browse the profiles of potential tutors on the Faculty website and talk to the shortlisted tutors during scheduled appointments. Upon making the decision, a student files in a request. The requests are analysed individually by the tutors themselves.

Next, the tutoring process starts. It consists of individual, regular meetings (in most cases taking place every second week). Their goal is to discuss specific area of expertise and related topics, but also:

– meet the tutee – build a good relation,

– set development goals,

– plan the tutee’s development,

– execute the predefined plans,

– motivate and monitor the tutee,

– evaluate the results of tutor supervision

– evaluate.

Meetings with the tutor - realisation:

– the meetings of the tutor with his or her students take place once every second week, individually or in groups (in case of group assignments or similar areas of knowledge). Their purpose is to coordinate the development of a student, identification of current issues and help in solving these, on-topic discussions and evaluation of student’s work,

– there are additional meetings once every second week of the tutor and 12-16 students that take the form of issues presentation (prepared and delivered by the students), combined with a group discussion.

In practice, the Tutor workshop course lasts about 30h.
