About the Faculty

History

Faculty of Mechatronics dates back to the tradition of the school of mechanics of Warsaw University of Technology. In 1962, the Precision Mechanics Department by the Mechanical-Technical Faculty of Warsaw University of Technology became the Faculty of Precision Mechanics. The initiator of this change was Henryk Trebert, ProfTit, whose modern outlook has laid the foundations for a unit combining the areas of precision mechanics and electronics. In 1966, the Faculty of Precision Mechanics was moved to a new building at Narbutta street.

Over the course of the years to come since that time, the following areas of science, aside from precision mechanics, electronics, including precision and electronic equipment technology, have been developing: automatics, robotics, photonic engineering, metrology and biomedical engineering. This development path, directed at increased interdisciplinary engagement, led to the change of the name of the unit to the Faculty of Mechatronics in the 1995/96 academic year.

At first, the education was conducted at the Mechanics and Machines Construction studies, which in 1990s has evolved into Mechatronics studies. It was then that education at Automatics and Robotics and Biomedical Engineering was launched.
