Competition for the Position of Stipendium (registered PhD Student) in the NCN SONATA 20 Research Project

The Institute of Micromechanics and Photonics is seeking a registered PhD student (preferably - 3rd or final year of doctoral program) to conduct research related to the context aware interpretation of human activities for robotics application in the NCN SONATA 20 research project.

The recruitment is conducted in accordance with the Regulations for Awarding NCN Research Scholarships in Research Projects Financed by the National Science Centre, as set out in Resolution No. 25/2019 of the NCN Council of 14 March 2019 (https://ncn.gov.pl/sites/default/files/pliki/uchwaly-rady/2019/uchwala25_2019-zal1.pdf).

Duration: 12 months
Requirements for Candidates
- Master’s in Electronics, Mechanical, Automation, Computer Science, or related fields (preferably master’s degree from abroad)
- Proficiency in English (spoken and written) at a minimum of B2 level
- Programming skills in Python (experience with PyTorch or TensorFlow is an advantage), C/C++, and PLC programming
- Knowledge of image processing, computer vision fundamentals or 3D geometry
- Familiar with ROS and 3D sensing technologies (Kinect, ZED, etc.) and robotic platforms such as Boston Dynamics, robotic manipulator is a plus
- Motivation for scientific work, independence, teamwork skills, and willingness to learn
- Experience of working with modern human assisting robots (e.g. walking machines)
Project Tasks
- Design and implementation of human postures recognition methods, objects, scene recognition, pipelines from RGB-D video data
- Development of semantic mapping (ontology design) for human-object-scene relationships
- Implementation of the developed ontology tools using real-time data
