Didactic offer
Faculty of Mechatronics offers studies at the following levels:
- 1st degree– ending with an engineer paper
- 2nd degree – ending with a BEng paper
- 3rd degree – as a part of PW PhD schools
- post-diploma – an opportunity to advance one’s qualifications.
1st degree studies
First-degree engineering studies are intended for graduates of a secondary school with a baccalaureate degree. The first-degree graduate, after defending his/her diploma thesis, acquires higher professional education and obtains the professional title of engineer.
Stationary study courses in Polish (classes between Mondays and Fridays) are conducted in Polish, they last for 3.5 years and are executed at three study courses (Mechatronics; Automatics, Robotics and Industrial IT; Biomedical Engineering) and 10 specialties! In most cases, these study courses are free of charge.
Stationary study courses in English (classes between Mondays and Fridays) are executed in English, they last 3.5 years at two specialties: Photonics Engineering and Mechatronics Devices and Systems. In some cases, these study courses are free of charge.
Remote studies - the offer of the Faculty includes courses in Polish, conducted remotely (OKNO - Ośrodek Kształcenia na Odległość), i.e. remote study. They nominally last 4 years and are paid.
2nd degree studies
These are complementary studies, for those who already have at least an engineering degree in a technical field. The Master's degree prepares you to creatively participate in and lead teams preparing for the implementation of advanced mechatronic systems in research and development centres and industrial enterprises. Upon completion, they allow you not only to take up typical engineering positions, but also to work in R&D departments, take up management positions or work in research and development units.
Full-time studies in Polish - conducted in the Polish language on a daily basis (Mon-Fri) are planned to last 1.5 years and are conducted in the tutor mode in the fields of Mechatronics; Automation, Robotics and Industrial Computer Science; Biomedical Engineering. In practice, this means that the student/trainee chooses the course of study, the person of the tutor and the specialised subjects they want to study. The person of the tutor advises in directing the learning path. These studies are mostly free of charge.
Full-time English-language studies - conducted in English on a full-time basis. They are planned to last 1.5 years and are realised in the Mechatronics Faculty in the specialisations Mechatronic Devices and Systems and Photonics Engineering. The studies are in some cases free of charge.
Remote studies - the offer of the Faculty includes courses in Polish, conducted remotely (OKNO - Ośrodek Kształcenia na Odległość), i.e. remote study. They nominally last 2 years (the scope of the material correlates to three-terms stationary studies), but the student can slow down the process of exams taking, devoting up to two years per each year of studies, should such necessity be dedicated by life circumstances. These are conducted at Automatics and Robotics with the Industrial IT specialty. These studies are paid.
PhD studies
As of 1 October 2022, we have one Doctoral School at PW. This is a form of doctoral training that has replaced the previously known third-degree (doctoral) studies. At PW, it is possible to pursue a doctorate in the traditional mode (only at PW) as well as double doctorates (in cooperation with selected universities from all over the world) and implementation doctorates (a programme of the Ministry of Education and Science intended for people who - wanting to develop their scientific career - do not want to give up their professional work outside the university). Recruitment takes place twice a year.
Post-diploma studies
The Faculty offers the following post-diploma study courses
The duration of the studies is 2 semesters in the form of 15 Saturday-Sunday meetings held every 2 weeks. The study programme includes 210 hours of classes and the completion of a final thesis on a topic related to the student's professional activity. A person may apply for admission to the Studies if he/she has: a master's degree in engineering or an equivalent degree obtained in the field of study of Automatics and Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, or a master's degree or a bachelor's degree or an equivalent degree obtained in the field of study of Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics, Management and Marketing or a similar degree obtained in Poland or in another country. The studies are paid. More…
