Competition for the Position of Stipendium (registered PhD Student)

The Institute of Micromechanics and Photonics is seeking a registered PhD student to conduct research related to the context-aware interpretation of human activities for robotics applications in the NCN SONATA 20 research project.
The recruitment is conducted in accordance with the Regulations for Awarding NCN Research Scholarships in Research Projects Financed by the National Science Centre, as set out in Resolution No. 25/2019 of the NCN Council of 14 March 2019 (https://ncn.gov.pl/sites/default/files/pliki/uchwaly-rady/2019/uchwala25_2019-zal1.pdf).

Position title: Scholarship Holder / Student / PhD Student (already registered in doctoral school)
Number of positions: 1
Unit: Institute of Micromechanics and Photonics, Faculty of Mechatronics, Warsaw University of Technology
Duration: 24 months

Requirements for Candidates
• Master’s in Computer Science, or related fields (preferably master’s degree from a top 250 rank in QS 2026)
• Proficiency in English (spoken and written) at a minimum of B2 level
• Programming skills in Python (experience with PyTorch or TensorFlow is an advantage), C/C++
• Knowledge of image processing, computer vision fundamentals, or 3D geometry
• Familiar with ROS and 3D sensing technologies (Kinect, ZED, etc.)  is a plus
• Motivation for scientific work, independence, teamwork skills, and willingness to learn

Project Tasks
• Design and implementation of human posture recognition methods, human-object interaction pipelines from RGB-D video data
• Development of the structure database for human-object-scene relationships
• Implementation of the developed ontology tools using real-time data

Employment Conditions

• Scholarship duration: 24 months
• Scholarship amount: 2500 PLN per month (Gross)
• Additional support: Funding for participation in scientific conferences under the project
• Planned start date: 1 July 2026
