"Warsaw University of Technology during Warsaw Uprising" Exhibition

Eighty years since the outbreak of the Warsaw Uprising is a time that has passed, but not gone away. Numerous mementoes left behind by the heroic uprising of the capital's inhabitants can be viewed until 15 October this year in the temporary exhibition hall of the Warsaw University of Technology Museum at 22 Nowowiejska Street.
This year marks the 80th anniversary of the outbreak of the Warsaw Uprising. Numerous mementoes left behind by the heroic uprising of the capital's inhabitants are on display in the Polytechnic Museum. How the Warsaw Uprising was fought within the walls of the Polytechnic and in its immediate vicinity is described in the article Politechnika w Powstaniu Warszawskim 80 lat później. We can also see with our own eyes the memorials described by Associate Professor Wojciech Urbański of the Museum of the Warsaw University of Technology in the movie>> accompanying exhibition.
The public is invited to visit the exhibition until 15 October 2024 on weekdays between 09.00 and 14.30 in the temporary exhibition room at 22 Nowowiejska Street.
The anniversary exhibition collects, among other things, documents, newspapers, posters, commemorative prints or fragments of burnt parts of building structures. Among the bullets and rifle casings, we will also see, among other things, an unexploded 500 kg German bomb from the time of the uprising dropped on the Building of Electrical Engineering of the Warsaw University of Technology. The archive photographs present the profiles of those who spent the time of their youth in the fire of artillery shelling to save the future of the capital. The black and white frames depict not only the insurgents, but also their entire surroundings, including the destroyed Main Building of the Warsaw University of Technology. The silhouettes of the city's defenders are symbolised by mannequins dressed in civilian clothes, with a fusillade and red-and-white armbands. On display are the weapons used by the insurgents, including the ‘Blyskawica’ submachine gun and replicas of the Russian/Soviet Mosin rifle, Mauser system carbine, Sten submachine gun, Colt M1911A1 pistol or the original German bayonet S84/98/34 from 1943 in a scabbard from 1941, as well as Polish military binoculars made by the Kolberg Warszawa factory. The showcases also contain items of everyday use such as manteens, canteens, a 1943 British ‘drop’ rucksack (from demobilisation) and pieces of clothing including a German Hitlerjugend belt (original). The clock accompanying the exhibition invariably indicates the ‘W’ hour.
The exhibits come from the collections of Professor Mirosław Nader, Adam Urbański and the Museum of the Warsaw University of Technology.
