The wishes from the Dean of the Faculty of Mechatronics

W semestrze zimowym w roku akademickim 2023/2024 przeprowadzona zostanie rekrutacja na studia stacjonarne II stopnia (studia magisterskie) na następujące kierunki studiów: automatyka, robotyka i informatyka przemysłowa, mechatronika oraz inżynieria biomedyczna.

The scientists from the PW Faculty of Mechatronics have devised three applications utilising virtual reality that assist in curing people who have suffered a stroke.

Members of a team from our Faculty of Mechatronics and from the University of Warsaw have become the finalists of the DirectionSpace contest by designing an innovative project of a space experiment, to be conducted onboard the International Space Station. The GrowLight Team has presented their LASPA project - Laser Amplitude Stimulated Plant Agriculture at the 7th Silesia Science Festival in Katowice, becoming the only finalists from Masovia. Our students will compete with 11 best teams to gain the finances for the project and a study tour to CERN. The experiment tests the influence of microgravity on the development of plants stimulated with laser light.

The Siemens company and Warsaw University of Technology for the 28th time, and for the second time in new formula, organise a contest. Its mission is to support the development and achievements of students and young scientists. The awards will go to projects from the area of Industry 4.0, such as big data, AI or the internet of things. Additionally, they are to support the entrepreneurs make their businesses more ec0-friendly. The slogan of the contest is “Balanced industry through digital transformation and green technologies”.

Every month we host a meeting of the Sciencepreneurs' Club at the Centre for Innovation of PW at Rektorska 4. There, in a rather relaxed atmosphere (pizza) we listen to the stories of entrepreneurial people related to PW, including scientists and innovators. We highly recommend the whole thing but this time on Tuesday, 12 December, it will be particularly interesting to listen to Marcin Koziorowski, the head of the EcoBean company. Congratulations to Marcin Adamczyk, PhD, BEng, from our Faculty for receiving the distinction in the contest organised by the local government of Mazovia voivodeship : Innovators of Mazovia. The paper that received the distinction is entitled Method of Compensating Temperature Influence on Replicating 3D Geometry Using Structural Lighting Technique. Adamczyk is also a laurate of the FOTECH-2 contest. Congratulations!

Traditionally, we would like to open our hearts to those in need. Starting this week, you can support the initiative via zrzutka.pl by 15 December, 2023. Alternatively, you can bring products for families in need. This year, we will help the families of Barbara and Kaja. You will find stands and cardboard boxes at your faculties to which you can put the following products: food with long expiry date: tea, rice, oil, canned meat, canned fruit and vegetables, cosmetics: shampoos, toothpaste, dish soap, fabric conditioner, school materials: notebooks, paints, dough, crayons, house amenities: blankets, linen and towels. Let’s create together a beautiful Christmas gift for those in need!

The National University of Technology in Odessa (ONUT) under the auspices of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the Black Sea Universities Network (BSUN) international organisation, invite you to participate in the International Contest of Students Scientific Papers Black Sea Science 2024 in the “IT, Automatics and Robotics” category. The goal of the contest is to broaden the international cooperation among students. The participation is free of charge. To participate, please supply a paper in English (of no more than 15 pages). You are most welcome to participate in the SzIR-PN Contest. Its purpose is to propagate the research on applications of AI and machine learning in solving problems from the area of computer vision, the problems that require abstract thinking, analogies establishing and rules deducing. Between 8-10 December, Warsaw University of Technology, in collaboration with BlueSoft, invites you to the AI Challenge Hackathon, which aims to recognise creative teams able to use artificial intelligence proficiently for software applications. The real prize for taking part in the hackathon is the opportunity to fund a pilot implementation at BlueSoft. If the winning team manages to come up with a solution worth implementing, the company will invite them for a paid pilot implementation.

Are you studying automatics and robotics or a related field? Do you want to work under the guidance of experienced engineers? Is your dream to make a real contribution to the technological development of the industrial automation industry? Take part in the Schneider Electric "IA Masters" contest, carry out the best automatics and robotics research project and contribute to the development of new digital technologies in the field of industrial automation! Project teams (2 or 3 people) are invited to participate and, under the guidance of a mentor from Schneider Electric, develop an industrial solution using EcoStruxure Machine Expert Twin software.

The Team for New Technologies Law of WAiNS invites to a meeting entitled “How to Recognise a Prospective Startup”, presenting the investment policy of the VC fund. Date: 29 November, 2023 at 16:00. The guest of the meeting will be Michał Michalewicz, Investment Manager at Xplorer Fund, who supports leaders building teams, defining research plans and budgets, as well as establishing corporate order. The meeting will comprise two parts: a presentation of the innovations ecosystem and a Q&A session, open to all participants.

The Ministry of Education and Science has launched the #LudzieNauki project (#Peopleofscience). It is a portal on which everybody will be able to find information on Polish scientists. The website accumulated in one place the data of over 90 000 Polish scientists.  Each of them will have a separate profile there, supplemented with data on scholar achievements, education and employment, facilitated by universities and other scientific institutions. It will be possible to get notifications on new contests and opportunities for getting funding for research with the use of the portal.

Bentham Science Publishers has activated 2-month trial access to journals and books in the following fields: chemistry, computer science, physics/astronomy, mathematics, earth and environmental sciences, engineering technology, biology/life sciences, economics and business, social sciences, medicine, philosophy/linguistics, psychology/psychiatry, agriculture, food sciences.
